 Arrival and Dismissal
The school day begins promptly at 7:50 AM. Students should be in their classrooms and ready to begin work at that time. Punctuality is a quality of good citizenship. Help your child to be on time.

Students arriving at school prior to 7:50 are required to report to the assigned waiting areas. Students may not arrive at school before 7:30 as there is no teacher supervision prior to that time.

(94-100)

B

(86-93)

C

Satisfactory

(78-85)

D

Students in grades 1 and 2 are graded in math and language arts. Students in grade 3 are graded in math, language arts, and science. Students in grades 4 and 5 are graded in math, language arts, social studies, science, and health.

The symbols S (satisfactory), I (shows improvement), and N (needs improvement) are used for physical education, art, music, conduct, and work/study habits.

Breakfast and Lunch
Nutritious breakfasts and lunches will be served each day. The cost of eating breakfast is free. The cost of lunch is $1.25. Milk can be purchased for .30 cents.

For those qualifying, reduced price lunch is 40 cents. Free lunch is provided for those with an approved free meal application. Applications are available through the school cafeteria.

Students who are walkers or car riders wanting to eat breakfast must arrive prior to 7:50 AM.

Our food service will operate using a computerized system called "Lunchbox." An account number will be assigned to each child at the beginning of the year. With this account number, you will be able to pay in advance. You may deposit money to your child's account, and as your child receives meals, the cost of the meal will automatically be deducted from your child's balance. One account will be used for both breakfast and lunch, as well as for the purchase of milk when your child brings lunch from home.  We will still be able to take cash at the register, but to help the lunch line move as quickly as possible, we encourage you to prepay.

The account will not be used for the purchase of "extra" milk. It must be paid for in cash at the time of purchase.

When the your child’s account has a 2 day balance, the cashier will stamp his/her hand as a reminder to you that lunch money is needed.  If you do not want your child’s hand stamped please notify the office in writing.  NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO CHARGE MEALS.  If you forget to give your child meal money we will allow him/her to call you to bring the money to school.  WE DO NOT WANT A CHILD TO GO HUNGRY; IN THE EVEN YOUR CHILD CANNOT REACH YOU FOR A LUNCH OR LUNCH MONEY, WE WILL PROVIDE A PEANUT BUTTER/JELLY SANDWICH FOR HIS/HER LUNCH.  WATER WILL BE SERVED AS THE DRINK.

Please rest assured that no one else will be able to use your child's account. This ensures that the money you send in will be for your child only. Because of the way our system operates, we will not be able to have "family accounts." Each child must have his own account. You may check with Mrs. Meyers at 941-5540 at any time to determine your child's account balance.

Adult lunches are $2.75.

Children may bring lunches from home.  Please do not send soft drinks or sodas; they are not allowed at school.

Birthday Lunches
We celebrate student birthdays monthly by holding a birthday lunch for students and their parents. Participants are invited to sit at the birthday table and receive a special treat. Parents are invited to eat with their child and then browse at our book table and to purchase a birthday book in honor of their child. A special nameplate recognizing the child is placed in the book and the book is then added to our media center collection. Information and luncheon dates are sent home monthly so that we will be prepared for your attendance at the birthday lunch.

Attendance
If a student is to do his/her best school work, he/she needs to be regular in attendance. A total of more than 10 absences may cause the loss of credit for one year's school work. Tardies and early dismissals can also interfere with the learning process. Please make every effort to see that your child is in school unless the child is ill or there is serious illness or death in the immediate family. Attendance will be carefully monitored, including late arriving students, and chronic problems will be reported to the attendance officer.

Immediately upon returning to school from an absence, the student must have a written excuse. The excuse should be on a full sheet of paper and should include the following:

  1. The date
  2. The date of absence
  3. The reason for the absence or early dismissal
  4. The student's name
  5. The teacher's name
  6. The parent's signature

All excuses will be filed in the office. The County Attendance Supervisor will be notified if the student has more than three unexcused absences or tardies or more than ten excused absences. If a student is tardy, he/she MUST report to the office before going to class to receive a pass.

 Dress
Modesty and appropriateness of dress is expected. T-shirts with offensive slogans, bare midriffs, short shorts, and flip-flops are not suitable for school wear. Older students are discouraged from wearing biker shorts and other excessively tight and/or revealing garments. The administration will determine if clothing is inappropriate and parents will be notified in order to bring an appropriate change of clothing.  Our district policy prohibits the wearing of hats while in the building.

Prescription Drugs or Other Medication
If a child must take oral medication during the school day, a medication form must be completed and signed by the physician. No medication, including Tylenol or aspirin, can be given without this signed form. Forms are available upon request.

P.T.O.
The Woodfields P.T.O. invites all parents to be actively involved in improving our school. This year, membership dues are $2.00 per person of $5.00 per family.  We ask for parental support through time, activities, fundraisers, and/or donations.  Meetings for the 2007-2008 school year are yet to be scheduled.

 Parent Conferences
Parents who wish to have a conference with a teacher may make an appointment by calling the school office at 941-5540.

Conferences may be held from 2:30-3:30 each day. A copy of the teacher's schedule will be sent home at the beginning of the school year. Please refer to it if you wish to contact him/her during the school day.

Parents are encouraged to visit the child's classes any time. Before such a visit, the parents should check in at the office.

Visitors
ANYONE
who visits the school is asked to stop by the office for a visitor's pass. This includes parents, even those who have an appointment with the teacher. The office has a plan for counting the number of visits made during the school year. Your check-in at the office will enable us to keep an accurate record of parent visits and will help to assure your child's safety.

You should expect to be stopped and asked for a pass. Please do not be offended. We are trying to assure your child's safety.

Visitors are asked to sign the VISITOR'S LOG which is located in the lobby.  Please share your written comments with us.

Volunteers
Woodfields Elementary School
has a growing community volunteer program. Volunteers are needed to assist in clerical activities, student tutoring, library activities, field trips, materials production, etc.  If you feel you might be interested giving a few hours of your time each week on a regular schedule, we would welcome your help. Contact the school office at 941-5540 if you wish to participate.
